Article: A NEW HOME FOR FAOS IN THE HEART OF ATHENS

A NEW HOME FOR FAOS IN THE HEART OF ATHENS

A NEW HOME FOR FAOS IN THE HEART OF ATHENS

The heart of FAOS could never have found a home just anywhere.

From the beginning, we imagined our first flagship store as more than a place to discover our collections. We wanted it to reflect the world behind FAOS: Greek light, contemporary Mediterranean aesthetics, craftsmanship and the quiet beauty of materials made to last.

That vision found its place in Stoa Arsakeiou, in the very centre of Athens.

A historic setting, reimagined

Set within one of the city centre’s most distinctive historic complexes, Stoa Arsakeiou is entering a new chapter of its own. Revitalised as a contemporary meeting point for culture, design, gastronomy and urban life, it brings together the architectural character of old Athens with the creative energy of the city today.

For FAOS, the connection felt natural. Our identity has always been rooted in Greece, but never in a nostalgic interpretation of it. Instead, we are inspired by the Greece we experience every day: sunlight falling across stone, natural textures, colour, long afternoons, craftsmanship and a slower, more considered rhythm of life.

The new flagship store translates these influences into a physical space.

Mediterranean aesthetics through a contemporary lens

The interior was designed around the same principles that guide our eyewear: attention to detail, premium materials and the value of skilled hands. Natural textures, warm surfaces and handcrafted elements shape the store, creating an atmosphere that feels distinctly Mediterranean while remaining contemporary and refined.

Much like our frames, which are carefully finished by hand in Greece, several elements of the space were created by local artisans. The custom-made counter reflects this dedication to craftsmanship, while overhead, a traditional kalamoti introduces a familiar element of Greek and Mediterranean architecture in an understated way. Rather than relying on obvious references, the store expresses its Greek identity through material, light and detail.

The result is a space that feels warm, tactile and colourful, yet calm and balanced, a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean living and design.

Discovering how FAOS is made

We also wanted the store to offer something that goes beyond the finished product. A dedicated display presents the different stages involved in the creation of our handmade frames, inviting visitors to discover the process behind each pair of FAOS eyewear.

From the first stages of production to the final finishing details, the installation offers a closer look at the craftsmanship, precision and human touch behind our collections.

For us, this process is an essential part of what FAOS represents. In a world increasingly shaped by mass production, we continue to believe in making things with care, in small batches, and in preserving the expertise of the people behind every frame.

A glimpse of Greek life

Elsewhere in the store, moving imagery captures the atmosphere that continues to inspire us. Carefree moments, movement, sunlight and fragments of everyday Greek life appear throughout the space, creating a visual connection between the collections and the places, colours and emotions behind them.

Because FAOS has always been about more than eyewear.

It is about a particular way of seeing, shaped by light, place, culture and the moments that stay with us.

More than a store

Our first flagship marks an important step in the evolution of FAOS.

As our network of selected optical partners continues to grow in Greece and abroad, the Athens store gives the brand its first permanent home, a place where visitors can experience our collections, discover the craftsmanship behind them and connect more closely with the world of FAOS.

More than a retail space, it brings together everything that has shaped the brand from the beginning: Greek light, contemporary design, premium materials and craftsmanship.

A new home for FAOS, right in the heart of Athens.
